Dear all parents…

Circumstances may warrant a break up or falling out of love with someone you’ve had a child with. No matter the circumstances, that child is here to stay! That child looks first to his/her parents for protection, to be cared for, and to be loved. The first thing that child will learn, is what is taught inside of the home. Kids listen to the way their parents speak to one another, and the way they behave towards one another. And since “home” (for that child) is the safest place on earth, they consider whatever words and behaviors you present to be acceptable.

If the relationship between you and your partner did not last, that’s one thing. However, it’s still extremely important for you to maintain a happy/healthy relationship with one another, as you will still serve as a role model to your child. To the men… always treat your child’s mother with dignity and respect (especially in the presence of your child), as this is the way you would want your child to treat his/her mother and other women in the world. To the women… always treat your child’s father with dignity and respect (especially in the presence of your child), as this is the way you would want your child to treat his/her father and other men in the world. It starts at home.

Having a peaceful relationship with the mother/father of your child will make your life much easier. This is one relationship that will never go away, so make the duration of this relationship as pleasant as possible. A great way to go about doing this is by letting go of all the hurt/pain your child’s mother/father caused you during the relationship. Forgive them, let go of the past, and look forward to a new future. The two of you might not have been the best boyfriend or girlfriend to each other due to whatever circumstances, but you can certainly be the best parents you can be for the sake of your child. <<<< And this you owe to the child!

Love one another and continue to show your children how to love.
